Frequently Asked Questions

Is Foxes Have Homes like an AirBnB for Adventists?
No. The sole purpose of Foxes Have Homes is to connect Adventist homeowners and Adventist house sitters. We envision the relationship between homeowner and house sitter as being mutually beneficial which typically would not involve the exchange of money. If there is an exchange of money, that is strictly between the homeowner and the house sitter and would not involve Foxes Have Homes.
How can I be sure the other person is an Adventist?
We do an initial screening with a qualifying question before we allow anyone to join the Foxes Have Homes network, but no such screening is 100% foolproof. We strongly urge members to correspond with each other before organizing any house sits. You may wish to see pictures of each other, speak on the phone or video-chat, ask for information on which church each of you attend and what your pastors' names are, etc.
How long does the house sit have to be?
This is between you and the homeowner/house sitter! It could be from as little as one night or as long as two years or more!
Why is there a membership fee?
Running a global network of homeowners and house sitters costs money. The membership fee covers our maintenance and upkeep costs of the website. The fee will also help to prevent scammers from joining the network.
Why don't you have a Facebook group?
Because we would rather put our time and energy into this website than moderating comments in a Facebook group. Additionally, this is much more secure and private than a Facebook group.
Is this a website just for North American Adventists?
No! The Foxes Have Homes network is available around the world! For now, the site is only available in English, but we want to bring Adventists together from any country where house sitters and homeowners wish to connect. Wouldn't it be fun to housesit in another country?
Why is there a 2MB limit on profile image uploads?
To ensure fast loading times and optimal performance for all users, we limit profile image uploads to 2MB. This helps keep pages responsive and reduces bandwidth usage across devices. For best results, please use compressed JPEG or PNG images under this size. You can use a service like TinyPNG to compress your images. It is free, quick, and easy to use!
Why can I only upload one photo for my profile or my home?
We want to limit the amount of personal data we collect from you, so we only allow one photo upload for either your profile or your home. Users are free to share additional photos with each other directly, outside of the limitations of the Foxes Have Homes website.
What's the best way to stay safe when meeting a house sitter or home owner?
Keeping things safe and comfortable is key. Before you share your address or invite someone into your home, it's a good idea to swap some photos, exchange a few emails, and have a quick phone or video call. It's all about getting a feel for each other first and making sure it's a good match.
